With our wonderful 45th Reunion fading into the past, let’s not forget how much fun it was to gather together among our sisterhood. We all came away with new friends, as well as the old.
For so many of us, that sentiment is especially important at this time. I hope you all got the chance to read the incredibly uplifting email from Wellesley’s new President, Dr. Paula Johnson. I tried to include the direct link but it was behaving strangely. If you want to read it, go to wellesley.edu and select the Administration tab. Then choose Office of the President. Once you get to that page, please select the link for Selected Speeches and Announcements and then choose "Creating the Future We Want."
She seems to be genuine, thoughtful and easy-going (the students call her “P.J.” and she reportedly loves it). And she clearly enjoys being part of the Wellesley community.
One of the ways each of us can pull together our efforts to keep things going in a good direction is to make connections with other ‘71ers in your area. Our Class VP’s, Betsy Bowman and Kathy Calkins Horne, will be helping to coordinate mini-reunions in various locations during the upcoming year, but there’s no reason to wait around. Use the visit of President Johnson to your city as an occasion for a class get-together. Or, if you have a few classmates in your location, plan to meet at a local restaurant or pub, which takes almost no effort at all. Be sure to take a picture for the website!
Speaking of website, we are at 1971.alum.wellesley.edu. See what’s happening! Check out the Passions and Projects article and send in some info about your own passion. And if you have a question, you can open an email to any of your class officers by clicking their name on this website page. Any of us would be glad to hear from you.
FROM OUR CLASS SECRETARY:
The Class Notes deadline for the winter issue of Wellesley Magazine is at hand. Please send your news to Belinda Wilkins Tepper at email@example.com. Late news and photos may appear on "Recent News about your Classmates" on the class website.
And one final note:
I am advised by older alums that we need to identify Co-Chairs for our 50th Reunion NOW! I would love to have some volunteers, as we will need a full committee to put together a bang-up celebration. After all, most of us will be 71 years old for at least part of 2021. How perfect is that?!? ’71 at 71 (or ..2). OK – it’s a little scary, I admit. You can email me at firstname.lastname@example.org
Sending you all best wishes for a very Happy Thanksgiving and year-end holidays!
Go with Gold,
Cathy White O’Rourke
1971 Class President
